In reading your synopsis I see how helpful it would be to write one before starting your novel to avoid “plot holes.” A dedicated pantster I waste so much time writing then removing massive chunks then trying to figure out the true story line, and coming up with a plot! Duh. I now have 60,000 words in search of a story. Thank you for putting this all together so succinctly.

Could I ask if it's typical for epilogues to be included in a synopsis? My gut thought is no, as it's more an addendum to the main story, though I could see why, in a document outlining your story from start to finish, it could be useful. Not much online regarding the two together. Thanks!

Thank you so much for putting together such a great guide! I stumbled across your article since an agent I was looking at linked to it. This was such a helpful read.

I don't fit any of the typical query letter formats. I'm a retired illustrator and art director. I've written a 180-page, 15,000-word book about my three decades in the film industry. It is a picture book with illustrations. I have two query letters with pictures I would like to show/discuss.
