68. Archetypes: The Fatal Flaw

This week JJ and Kelly continue their Summer of Archetypes series with The Fatal Flaw! Some museum recommendations! Hamilton also makes a reappearance!

Show Notes

  • Like The Chosen, the Fatal Flaw narrative often has a sense of inevitability to them. Not necessarily fate or preordination, but the feeling of an unstoppable train.

  • Fatal flaw narratives seem to have fallen out of favor in publishing these days, but that isn't to say there isn't room for a really great one on the shelves.

  • YA tends to be more optimistic (or hopeful) as a category, so tragedies may be less popular for this reason.

What We're Working On

  • Kelly is working on agenting stuff and made a chore chart for her kid

  • JJ is rereading Shadowsong and still working on a secret project

What You're Saying

★★★★★ Like talking to my best writing pals —Crazyquill

I love this podcast! I am a published author and have gotten so much out of the few sessions I've already listened to—especially the talks on tropes and archetypes, stuff not normally discussed in the classes and workshops I've taken. I feel like I've made new friends, listening to these ladies. Highly recommend!

Thank you so much! We love your reviews!

That’s all for this week! Next week we’ll continue our Summer of Archetypes, continuing with Romance tropes! As always if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below, send us an ask on Tumblr, or tweet using the hashtag #askpubcrawl!
