ONCE WE WERE by Kat Zhang releases TODAY!
Get ready world—today is the day Once We Were by Kat Zhang is released!
I'm sure you will agree that it has been an unbearably long wait for the sequel to What's Left of Me. Now that the wait is over, let me give you some advice—clear your calendar. Trust me, when you get this book in your hands and return to the world of Addie and Eva—the world where everyone is born with two souls—you will not be able to put it down. Everything that was special about What's Left of Me is here, but Once We Were truly builds where the first book left off, leading you deeper into the struggle of the hybrids.
In Once We Were, you will be carried along as Addie and Eva become stronger, more individualized characters (especially Eva.) You will go beyond the unique sisterhood the girls share and explore issues of friendship and loyalty while learning more about the world in which Addie and Eva live—a world both incredibly fantastic and hauntingly similar to our own. New characters are introduced, the girls encounter new challenges and new abilities, and (yes!) romance grows (presenting its own set of challenges to two girls sharing one body.)
As with What's Left of Me, Kat’s gorgeous prose will sweep you along as you examine moral and ethical questions that don’t always have clear, bright-line answers.
Here's a brief sample taken from the opening lines of the prologue:
We share a heart, Addie and I. We own the same pair of hands. Inhabit the same limbs. That hot June day, freshly escaped from Nornand Clinic, we stood and saw the ocean for the first time through shared eyes. The wind batted our hair against our cheeks. The sand stuck to our salt-soaked skin, turning our pale legs tan.
We experienced that day as we’d experienced the past fifteen years of our lives. As Addie and Eva, Eva and Addie. Two souls sharing one body. Hybrid.
But the thing is, sharing hands doesn’t mean sharing goals. Sharing eyes doesn’t mean sharing visions. And sharing a heart doesn’t mean sharing the things we love.
I read those words and I knew that not only would I need to hang on and keep reading until there were no more words left—no more new secrets to learn or experiences to share with these incredible characters—but I knew that on every page I would be fully invested—my heart would soar when Addie and Eva's shared heart soared and it would break when their shared heart broke.
I was right, and I loved every minute of it. I know you will, too.
One more word of advice—don’t head into the ending of ONCE WE WERE late in the day, because you will not get any sleep until dawn. The finale of this book will have you biting your nails as you anxiously turn the pages. When the last page is turned, I promise that you (like me) will be clamoring for more! Ahhhhh!—bring on Book 3 of THE HYBRID CHRONICLES!!!
